ABSTRACT

The Philippines, as a fast-growing country, has had the highest road infrastructure investment to date for the past five years compared to the previous years. The infrastructure programs of the government as a solution to decongest Metro Manila and develop the countryside for economic growth are promising yet result in various risks and challenges. This research presents the road development issues from multiple sources;primary data from interviews of stakeholders of road development, secondary data from online news articles, social network services, government issuance, policies, and related literature. The Philippines is in a dire economic situation due to the Covid-19 outbreak that resulted in the country's worst economic performance since the Asian financial crisis in 1998. The country's economic managers pinned high hopes on the government infrastructure programs as a vital strategy to help pump-prime the economy towards recovery due to its job generation and multiplier effects. Hence, it implicates enormous risks and challenges such as low tax revenues, the trade-off with more urgent Covid-19 response measures, foreign and private companies support, unsolicited project proposals, inequitable distribution of infrastructures, and delays in construction activities. Various road development stakeholders also mentioned the need for strict road regulations, urban and regional planning, aesthetic improvement, urban renewal in aid of car-centric infrastructures, and routine maintenance on-road sections. The data are structured in various categories such as public involvement, environmental preservation, public policy, project planning, road design, road safety, economic recovery, and construction time. ABSTRACT

Consider the most important lessons learned from the global achievements and disappointments of the previous year. It was a year filled with pandemics that exacerbated massive geopolitical, social, and economic shocks on a worldwide scale, bringing out the worst and best in people. However, the past two years have demonstrated the fragility of global institutions in numerous industries, including medicine, hospitality, travel, and commerce. It also reflects the resilience of the international system with the introduction of various vaccinations and concentrated worldwide efforts against pandemic threats. Conventional and cutting-edge technology approaches are needed to attack COVID-19 and put the situation under control. This paper's primary purpose is to systematically study trends in technology solutions for smart healthcare systems - for example, artificial intelligence (AI) and big data (BD) analytics, which will help save the world. These AI solutions facilitate innovative administrations, adaptability, productivity, and efficiency by developing related frameworks. Specifically, this study identifies AI and Big Data contributions that should be incorporated into smart healthcare systems. It also studies the application of big data analytics and AI to offer users insights and help them to plan and presents models for intelligent healthcare systems based on AI and big data analytics. © 2023 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

The current study compared air pollution levels during the Covid-19 pandemic years (14 Nov. 2020, 04 Nov. 2021) and the previous year's Diwali celebrations (19 October 2017, 07 November 2018, 27 October 2019) in Delhi. PM2.5, NH3, SO2, PM10, NO2, CO, and O3 concentrations were substantially higher in 2020 Diwali than in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2021 Diwali. PM2.5, PM10, and CO concentrations were always above the permissible limits (Very poor and Sever AQI Category);however, except on Diwali days, NO2 concentrations were within allowable limit (Good and Satisfactory AQI Category), and other pollutants such as SO2, NH3, and O3 concentrations were determined to be within permissible limits (Good AQI Category) throughout the year in Delhi. This data suggests that during the pandemic, people were following the guideline given by honorable Supreme Court of India and use less amount of firecrackers than in previous years. But the stubble burning contribution in 2020 was higher than last year and the meteorological condition was also unfavorable in that year. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

ABSTRACT

The global proliferation of COVID-19, as well as the growth of platforms as a primary source of information for many individuals, has elicited a wide spectrum of reactions. However, keeping up with this mass scenario is difficult. A large number of people offer their opinions and perspectives on current events on social media, making it difficult for a human to read and comprehend everything. Tweets disseminate a great deal of information. Using public Twitter comments, our study attempted to conduct a sentiment analysis of the entire discourse about COVID-19 in a paper. We improved on earlier methodologies and methods for sentiment analysis. Our primary goal is to examine tweets concerning COVID-19 from the previous year using natural language processing and neural network methods. We used a multiclass dataset and applied it to BOW, TFIDF, and One Hot Encoding. Furthermore, after training four distinct classifiers with these different pre-processing algorithms in each classifier, we performed a competitive analysis and found RoBERTa as the best performing with 90% accuracy. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

The paper deals with the actual costs of equity in the sector NACE 'H' (transportation and storage). The paid-out profit shares, expressed through changes in the retained earnings of previous years and the profit or loss for the current accounting period, will be considered as actual incurred costs. The input data will be obtained from the Cribis / Albertina database and will be based on the earnings in the transport sector for the period 2016-2020. As the research sample, only active and profitable companies will be selected. Subsequently, 5 categories will be created according to the volume of sales. The results show that the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the transport sector, except for Category 4 with a turnover of CZK 100,0, 000 to CZK 1,000,000,000, in which both retained earnings from previous years and the profit for the current accounting period grew. Regarding the share of retained earnings from past years in the earnings of the current accounting period, category 4 shows the sharpest decrease. The average percentage in each category was 82%. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

World textile and clothing trade increased by a sharp 14.2% to a record high of US$889 bn in 2021, following declines of 2.8% in 2020 and 0.7% in 2019. Within the overall total for 2021, clothing trade increased by 19.3% and textile trade increased by 7.1%. The increases can be attributed to a recovery—particularly in clothing trade—after trade was negatively impacted in 2020 by the COVID-19 pandemic. The USA continued to have a deficit in its textile and clothing trade in 2021. Furthermore, the deficit was up by 13.7% compared with the previous year to a record high of US$127 bn. The rise reflected a jump in US clothing imports—which itself represented a rebound following a decline in 2020 as a result of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The EU also continued to have a deficit in its textile and clothing trade, although this deficit was down by 23.2% to US$50 bn—primarily as a result of a decline in textile imports. These fell following a jump in the previous year, which itself reflected a surge in imports of face masks in order to stem the spread of COVID-19. Similarly, Japan's textile and clothing trade deficit was down by 9.5% to US$29 bn and the UK's textile and clothing trade deficit was down by 14.5% to US$22 bn—again reflecting declines in textile imports. Offsetting these deficits, China had the world's largest textile and clothing trade surplus in 2021, followed by India, Turkey, Vietnam and Bangladesh. China was also the world's largest textile exporter in 2021 with a 41% share of world textile exports, followed by the EU, India, Turkey, the USA, Vietnam, Pakistan, South Korea, Taiwan and Japan. The world's largest textile importer was the EU with a 21% share of world textile imports, followed by the USA in second place with a 10% share. Next in importance was Vietnam, followed by China, Bangladesh, Japan, the UK, Indonesia, Turkey and South Korea. The world's largest clothing exporter in 2021 was China with a 33% share of world clothing exports, followed by the EU, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Turkey, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong and Pakistan. The world's largest clothing importer, however, was the EU with a 34% share of world clothing imports while the USA took 19%, Japan took 5% and the UK took 4%. Next in importance was China, followed by Canada, South Korea, Russia, Switzerland and Australia. But these six countries had only small shares of world clothing imports. © Textiles Intelligence Limited 2022.

ABSTRACT

The purpose of the present work was to assess the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic on the activity of the Department of General Medicine in the University Hospital "San Giovanni di Dio and Ruggi d'Aragona” of Salerno and the hospital "A.O.R.N. A. Cardarelli” of Naples (Italy). COVID-19 is a specific disease affecting subject respiratory system is a respiratory infection that changed the health context. Because of the pandemic hospitals had to reorganize departments to better manage resources. In order to make a comparison with and without Covid-19, the data for the year 2019 (in the absence of Covid-19) and in the year of the pandemic 2020 have been collected. In the work was used the logistic regression technique to study the following variables: age, sex, LOS, weight of DRG, mode of discharge and type of hospitalization. In addition, the results of the two hospitals were used to make a comparison. For both hospitals in the year 2020 the number of patients admitted is lower than the previous year, and this shows that there has been appropriate management and control to establish patients who really needed hospitalization. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

ABSTRACT

This study aims to determine how the use of social media on the Twitter of the National Commission on Violence Against Women in gender advocacy. Based on data from datareportal.com, in 2021, the use of Twitter in Indonesia occupies the fourth position with a percentage of 63.6% of the population of social media users in Indonesia of 170 million users. That means that many Indonesians access Twitter to get information, one of which is about gender advocacy. Based on the National Commission on Violence Against Women report 2021, 338,496 reports gender-based violence against women;this number increased by about 50% from the previous year, which amounted to 26,062 cases. Therefore, Twitter is a place to deliver messages disseminate information and education about gender advocacy in Indonesia. This research method uses Qualitative Data Analysis Software using NVivo. The data source for this research is the official Twitter account @KomnasPerempuan. The data retrieval stage is carried out through N-Capture on tweet and retweet account activities. The findings show that the account has been active for the last three years and the highest percentage was in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic. The percentage looks significant from the previous year. Based on the analysis of @KomnasPerempuan's information content regarding gender advocacy, information was found regarding the Ratification of the sexual violence laws. It was also found that there were Twitter tweets regarding gender advocacy in Indonesia with the hashtags #gerakbersama, #sahkanruupks, #jangantundalagi and #kawalsampailegal. ABSTRACT

People's travel has changed greatly under the impact of COVID-19. However, it is controversial that whether traffic restrictions of COVID-19 have a positive or negative impact on traffic accidents. At present, there are few studies on the variations of traffic accidents under the impact of COVID-19 in China, and quantitative analysis is rare. Therefore, this study explores the traffic accidents characteristics of W city seriously affected COVID-19. Based on wavelet transform, traffic accident prediction model is established using property damage only accidents data to predict accident frequency without the impact of COVID-19. Compared with the actual traffic accidents frequency, this paper quantitatively analyzes the impact of COVID-19 on traffic accident. The results show that traffic accidents show a trend of decline-bottom-recovery;the frequency of accidents after the recovery is more than the previous year's level;compared with other periods in 2020, the proportion of injury accidents increased sharply during the period when traffic restrictions were gradually loose. The result of accident prediction shows that BP neural network has the best prediction effect. After the implementation of traffic restrictions, the frequency of accidents shows three stages: rapid decline, bottom and continuous rise. In the three stages, the frequency of property damage only accidents decreased by 379.06, 654.72 and 288.19 per day on average. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

In recent days, DeFi tokens have gained popularity as an investment option in the pandemic period and has gained a significant amount of investment. Cryptocurrency trading is a type of DeFi that has gained a lot of attention in the global market. The value of such currencies is increasing on a daily basis and peaked during the pandemic. One of these significant cryptocurrencies is the ether cryptocurrency, which ranks second only to the bitcoin cryptocurrency in terms of the value of a single coin. The ARIMA model will be used to forecast the price of ether. In this paper, an hourly forecast and a short term period forecast are performed. The forecast clearly shows that the ARIMA model performed better on log transformed data than on the original data. It's also evident that COVID-19 pandemic has also aided the growth of ethereum when compared to previous year. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

In March 2020, academic institutions across the world were involuntarily presented with the challenge of teaching and engaging students remotely through online classes. These forced adaptations allowed instructors to develop best practices they would carry with them into their classrooms post initial pandemic stages. During the spring semester of 2021, an Introduction to Environmental Engineering Course offered to college Juniors was taught using one of these initial best practices, a hyflex teaching pedagogy. This study looks at the effectiveness of a hyflex teaching pedagogy in environmental engineering education based on student performance on major graded events and achievement of course outcomes. These results can help shape the future of environmental engineering education by helping to evaluate the effectiveness of changes made to traditional education because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Pedagogical changes that enhanced student engagement and performance should be retained in a post-pandemic classroom while those that inhibited engagement and performance should be modified before continuing. Under the flexible pedagogy, during the 2021 spring semester, students were afforded the opportunity to choose their modality for receiving classroom instruction in an introduction to environmental engineering course. For each lesson, the student could choose to either attend the 55-minute lesson in person or remotely using a Blackboard Collaborate classroom. Students were not tied to a single modality and could change the method of instruction for each lesson. In support of hybrid pedagogy, during class time the instructor used tools to encourage student engagement from both in-person and remote students during each of the 40 lessons. The attendance modality was recorded for all 213 students for every lesson. Their performance across three exams, three problem sets, and the final exam were correlated, using Microsoft Excel's built-in correlation matrix function, to the students' method of attendance. This evaluation provided insight regarding if the method of instruction affected student performance. All students enrolled in the course received the same lesson content where the only difference was whether they chose to receive that instruction remotely or in person. This study also compared student performance on course outcomes to previous years when the class was only offered in-person to determine if the hyflex pedagogies affected students' achievement on any of the four desired course outcomes. The results of this study show that student performance throughout the semester on graded events had only a low to moderate correlation with chosen modality. Attendance favoring in-person learning only showed a slight correlation towards an increased overall average in the class but not enough to make it statistically significant. Overall, students performed only slightly better on some of the course outcomes to the previous years' performance. These results encourage instructors to continue to explore teaching pedagogies that were bred out of the adherence to pandemic constraints. Through deliberate and inclusive engagement strategies regarding preparation and the conduct of instruction, students may be allowed to select their teaching modality without significant impact on performance. © American Society for Engineering Education, 2022

ABSTRACT

EU textile and clothing imports fell in value by 7.7% to Euro106.10 bn (US$125.48 bn) in 2021 following a 5.0% increase in 2020. In terms of volume, however, imports rose by 10.5% to a record high. Textile imports plunged by 27.1% in value but rose by 12.7% in volume while clothing imports rose by 5.5% in value and 6.3% in volume. The average price of EU textile and clothing imports fell by a sharp 16.5% to its lowest level since 2014, reflecting a 35.4% plunge in the average price of EU textile imports and a 0.8% decline in the average price of EU clothing imports. The fall in the average price of EU textile imports reflected primarily a 56.7% plunge in the average price of EU textile imports from China which itself reflected a steep decline in imports of face masks from the country. Imports of these items had skewed the average price of textile imports from China upwards in the previous year as demand for them soared as a result of efforts to combat the spread of COVID-19. China was, by far, the EU’s biggest textile and clothing supplying country in 2021. However, imports from the country declined in value by 27.6%. As a result, the share of EU textile and clothing imports which came from China fell in value terms from 42.1% to 33.0%. There was also a sharp decline in the share of EU textile and clothing imports which came from the UK but all of the other eight supplying countries which ranked among the leading ten gained share. In volume terms, EU textile and clothing imports from China rose by 7.7%. Nevertheless, its share of EU textile and clothing imports from all sources fell from 33.1% to 32.3%. Of the other nine suppliers, there were declines in the shares of EU textile and clothing imports which came from Cambodia and the UK but there were increases in the shares of EU textile and clothing imports which came from Bangladesh, India, Morocco, Pakistan, Tunisia, Turkey and Vietnam. © Textiles Intelligence Limited 2022.

ABSTRACT

The previous years have brought a major disruption with the COVID-19 outbreak, and universities around the world had to quickly adapt to the new format of teaching and learning. Different fields faced various obstacles in trying to provide the best possible classroom-like experience to students during the lockdown. For engineering study programs, especially in the courses where the laboratory is very important, it was a difficult task to replicate the syllabus in the online domain. This paper presents experiences from online teaching of the Digital System Design course at the University of Novi Sad. Traditional and online variants of the course are presented and compared, with the focus on laboratory exercises which were the most difficult to adapt. In addition, student experiences are summarized and compared to experiences in the previous years when the course was held traditionally. © 2022 Croatian Society MIPRO.

ABSTRACT

The food industry represented 2019 3.2% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in Peru, in addition to presenting high employability being that the sector contained 7.4% of the Economically Active Population (EAP) [1]. However, due to the world crisis caused by COVID 19, this sector has been harmed in the year 2020 because the GDP of the accommodation and restaurants sector decreased by 50.2% compared to the previous year [2]. For that reason, strengthening this industry is considered crucial. One of the most critical links in the management of the supply chain of material, this problem results in the late delivery of orders to their customers, which would generate significant monetary losses and a bad reputation. In this sense, the present research proposes an integral improvement model based on the combination of tools such as the 5S ordering of raw material under a multi-criteria ABC approach, FEFO, MRP, Forecasting, and BPM, whose objective is to reduce the lead time. The model was validated through a simulation in Arena 16.1, where a reduction in delivery time and the frequency of extra purchases in 7.2% y 50%. © 2022 ACM.

ABSTRACT

Textile and clothing exports from Cambodia fell by 8.5% in 2020, reflecting the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The fall was due primarily to a decline in exports to the EU, although there were also substantial declines in exports to Canada, China, Japan and the UK. Exports to the USA, by contrast, increased and they were also up in 2021. Exports to the EU, however, continued to decline in 2021 and demand in this market is likely to remain subdued in the coming years following the EU’s decision to partially suspend Cambodia’s duty-free access to the EU market from August 2020. Textile and clothing exports from Indonesia rose by 23.4% in 2021 following a decline of 17.8% in the previous year. The rise in 2021 reflected an increase in sales in the US market but sales in the EU market declined. Domestic sales of clothing at the retail level in Indonesia, meanwhile, fell by 7.2% in 2021 after a plunge of 60.0% in 2020 but they were up during January-February 2022. Textile and clothing exports from Malaysia rose by 10.1% in 2021 following a decline of 13.7% in the previous year. The rise reflected an increase in textile exports as clothing exports continued to decline after falling in the previous year. The decline in clothing exports reflected falls in sales in the EU and US markets. Textile production in Malaysia, meanwhile, rose by 17.6% while clothing production edged up by 1.4%. Textile and clothing exports from Myanmar fell by 8.3% in 2020, reflecting declines in exports to several of its major markets, including Australia, Canada, the EU, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea and the UK, although there were increases in exports to China, Thailand and the USA. In 2021, however, there were declines in sales of textiles and clothing from Myanmar in the EU and US markets. Textile and clothing exports from Thailand rose by 13.1% in 2021 following a decline of 17.0% in 2020. The rise in 2021 reflecting increases in exports to most of Thailand’s major markets, including China, the EU, Japan, the USA and several Asean markets. However, textile and clothing production continued to decline. Textile and clothing exports from Vietnam rose by an estimated 5.1% in 2021, reflecting, primarily, an increase in sales in the US market as sales in the Japanese and EU markets continued to decline after falls in the previous year. ABSTRACT

US imports of textiles and clothing rose in value by 27.2% in 2021. As a result, they reached a record high, despite the fact that the rise had followed a 19.3% decline in the previous year—which, itself, reflected the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. In volume terms, imports surged by 39.4%, also to a record high. Within the 2021 total, imports of fabrics soared by 90.7% in volume terms to a record high while imports of apparel and made-up textiles also reached record highs, having increased by 27.4% and 23.4% respectively. Imports of yarns, meanwhile, rose by 13.9% but remained below the levels seen in 2018 and 2019. As a result, the share of fabrics in total imports rose from 22.4% to 30.6%, which represented its highest level on record. But the share of apparel fell to 31.2%, which represented its lowest level in several years, and the share of made-up textiles fell to 34.5%. However, made-up textiles continued to account for the largest share of total imports, having surpassed apparel in the previous year. The share of yarns, meanwhile, fell to just 3.7%. In terms of fibre type, man-made fibre products continued to dominate US textile and apparel imports as a whole with a share of 75.8%—which was up for the 13th consecutive year. Furthermore, in apparel alone, man-made fibre products accounted for the largest share of US imports in 2021 for the eighth consecutive year. However, their share fell for the first time in 15 years—from 57.6% in 2020 to 56.2% in 2021. The average price of US textile and clothing imports fell in 2021 for the tenth year in succession to a record low of US$1.21 per sme—which was 8.8% lower than in 2020. The fall in 2021 reflected, a decline in the average price of textile imports as the average price of clothing imports remained unchanged. The USA’s biggest textile and clothing supplying country in 2021 was, by far, China. Furthermore, US textile and clothing imports from China rose by 25.1% in value and 24.3% in volume. However, these increases were slower than growth in imports from all sources and, as a result, the share of US textile and clothing imports which came from China fell in value terms from 28.2% to 27.7% and in volume terms from 46.5% to 41.5%. Of the other nine supplying countries which ranked among the leading ten, there were double and triple digit increases in imports from all nine countries in value and volume terms. ABSTRACT

Consumption of cotton fibre by the world’s textile mills in the 2021/22 season (August 1, 2021-July 31, 2022) is expected to rise by 1.9% compared with the corresponding period a year earlier, according to the International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC). This expectation is based on forecasts of a continued recovery after a 12.8% increase in consumption in the 2020/21 season, which followed a 12.5% decline a year earlier as a result of a slowdown in global economic growth and disruption to supply chains resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. Production of cotton fibre, meanwhile, is expected to rise by 8.4% in 2021/22 after declining by 6.6% in the previous year. As a result, demand will be lower than supply in 2021/22, resulting in a rise in stock levels and, potentially, downward pressure on prices. Despite these developments, however, there has been upward pressure on prices as a result of expectations of strong demand and logistical issues which are impeding supply. According to the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), the cotton price will average 128 US cents/lb in the 2021/22 season—45 US cents/lb higher than in 2020/21. Looking ahead, global consumption of cotton fibre is expected to rise by 1.8% in the 2022/23 season, according to the EIU, reflecting an improvement in immunisation from COVID-19 and robust demand in smaller Asian nations. However, there are severe downside risks. These reflect, in particular, the impact of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine which has resulted in a highly uncertain economic environment. At the same time, production of cotton fibre is predicted to rise by 2.8% as the planted area is expected to increase because of the higher cotton price. As a result, production will remain above consumption and so there is likely to be a further rise in the stock level in 2022/23. Consequently, there is expected to be downward pressure on prices. Overall, the cotton price is forecast to average 121 US cents/lb and, if this comes to fruition, the cotton price will be 7 US cents/lb lower than in 2021/22. © Textiles Intelligence Limited 2022.

ABSTRACT

To track atmospheric CO2 changes resulting from the lockdowns, observations collected by the NASA Orbiting Carbon Observatory-2 (OCO-2) satellite and Japan's Greenhouse gases Observing SATellite (GOSAT) in 2020 were compared to results collected in previous years. The OCO-2 results were used to search for changes on regional scales over the globe. Targeted observations from GOSAT were used to track changes in large urban areas, such as Beijing and Tokyo. Both types of observations yielded key insights into the CO2 changes accompanying the economic disruptions caused by the COVID-19 lockdowns. ESA, NASA and JAXA developed the dashboard jointly to monitor the climate impacts of COVID-19. © 2021 IEEE

ABSTRACT

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the State Government of Victoria implemented measures, including several periods of'lockdown' that involved strict constraints on travel, and required people to work from home where possible. For most Victorians, these restrictions led to reduced noise from road traffic and from aircraft, however they appear to have resulted in increased exposure to other sources of noise. The number of pollution reports received by the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) Victoria in relation to noise more than doubled in the period from January to July 2020 (which covered several episodes of lockdown), compared with the same period in the previous year (with no lockdowns). This paper investigates the evolution of noise reports during 2020 and 2021, giving regard to the alleged noise source categories used in their triage.
